The weather at Lake Tahoe, on the border of California and Nevada, is perfect for a vacation any time of year. The winter climate is great for skiing, the summer ideal for hiking and exploring. You will be happy to find outdoor recreation is at its zenith in Lake Tahoe.
With the average elevation over 6,000 feet in the mountainous Lake Tahoe region, you'll find this Sierra Nevada landscape offers some wonderful opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. Snow falls from November to April making a ski vacation ideal when you realize this is combined with about 250 to 300 sunny days average for the year.
Of course, it's common in the mountains to find weather conditions change very rapidly, and winter storms can come on fast, so you always need to prepare for this when traveling here. The normal range for January, which is the coolest month of the year, is between 41 degrees and a minimum of around 15 degrees. Summer in Lake Tahoe has very low humidity, but daytime highs won't often go above 80 degrees. The evenings won't turn cold because of the influence of the lake surface and heavily forested lands. However, again, changes in weather are common here, and below freezing temperatures have all been recorded in June, July and August.
