Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival

Held each year since 1972, the popular Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival takes place along the beautiful shores of North Lake Tahoe at Sand Harbor State Park. The six-week performance series of Shakespeare's best plays attracts tens of thousands of guests and is the most widely-attended fest in the Tahoe area.

Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen of Verona is sure to enchant the entire family. Bosom buddies Valentine and Proteus are Verona's closest comrades, but their friendship is put to the ultimate test when Proteus forsakes his beloved Julia and competes for the affections of Valentine's newfound love, the strong-willed Silvia.  Teeming with high comic scenes and rich, romantic language, Two Gents displays Shakespeare's copious comic powers at their hilarious height.

Overview: Now in its fourth decade, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is dedicated to bringing culture and enjoyment to all residents and visitors of the Tahoe area while providing a little education about "The Bard" himself – William Shakespeare.

Details: Spanning six weeks during Tahoe's beautiful summer months – usually early July to mid August - this wonderful theatre event is the best attended festival in Lake Tahoe. In recent years, more than 30,000 individuals have purchased tickets for one or more of the three Shakespearian productions that are staged each year at beautiful Sand Harbor State Park on the shores of North Lake Tahoe. (Lately, the fest has also added some non-Shakespeare offerings as well.)

In addition to the plays, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival also offers a week-long post-season event called "Midsummer Nights", where visitors can enjoy a variety of dance, music, and theatre arts offerings, featuring local, regional, and national talent.
