Major attractions like the Gatekeeper's Museum, a featured exhibition of Native American and area history, as well as the local Lake Tahoe Music Festival (jazz, classical and bluegrass) are firm favorites with visitors and locals alike. Restaurants offer a bit of something to suit every taste and every budget, including basic American, Californian, Latin American, Italian, Mexican, and Spanish cuisine. There are also teahouses, bars, cafes and bakeries catering to varied snacks and drinks.

The city is home to six major hotel chains, a lodge, a resort, and family run bed and breakfasts, providing everything from luxury suites to simple self-catering rooms. Most have the usual expected amenities such as pools, saunas and exercise rooms; though some even have spas and their own fitness centers.

For those preferring the comforts of their own home, there are eleven agencies that deal with a significant number of rental properties. Visitors can choose between penthouses, condominiums and houses, all fully furnished and catering all the basic needs of any family. Most are rentable for as much as six months each year.

For business travelers, the city offers some of the best business facilities and amenities in the region. Conference centers offer meeting rooms, guest accommodation, catering and business equipment to meet the high standards of any business event.
