Overview

When going to Tahoma it is like stepping back into time. The area is dotted with summer cottages, historic homes and even a bed and breakfast. Its charm becomes apparent almost immediately because it is very quiet and even in the summer the most crowded part of the community is the beach, which is interesting because one is able to wander along it and hardly see a soul, save a relaxing family.

Tahoma is located along the west shore of Lake Tahoe 2 miles southeast of Homewood.

Services/Amenities

For those wish to travel or are considering taking their vacations here; it is definitely a charming location. Facilities are limited and the community depends greatly on the surrounding towns for many of their needs, but it is a good way to get back to nature or just avoid the crowded tourist traps.

Local rental properties are few, but the bed and breakfast has tiny cottages with cozy amenities and provisions – private doorways, feather filled comforters, fireplaces, big bathtubs, fully fitted kitchens, televisions, whirlpools and even decks. Some even offer hammocks in addition to the rustic furniture. Close by a main hall type room is the main gathering place where visitors can mingle and enjoy home made breakfasts.

Tahoma is close to other recreation spots. Activities like fishing, cycling, hiking, swimming, golfing, rafting, boating and skiing can be found in nearby towns and resort areas. Some just choose to stick to the community, wandering off occasionally on hiking or backpacking excursions.

Attractions

Tahoma CA is buried amongst the sprawling forest, but right on the doorstep of an attractive beach, with little more than the locals and picnicking facilities to entertain travel enthusiasts or visitors, or build vacations around. So this is the perfect kick back vacation spot.

Getting Here

The fastest way to travel to Tahoma, CA is to take Interstate 80 Truckee, CA. Just south of Truckee, turn south on CA-89/West River Road. Travel 13 miles and then take a slight left onto CA-89. Travel another 8 miles and you will arrive in Tahoma. Along the way you will pass through the base of the scenic Sierra Mountains and by the famous ski resort of Squaw Valley.
