Tahoe City is a boutique community located on the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. Though the community is small, its proximity to area resorts and outdoor recreation mean there are no shortage of activities, services, or amenities to service every inclination or appetite.

Tahoe City is located on the north west shore of Lake Tahoe near the headwaters of the Truckee River.

The town is well known for its boutique downtown shopping district, home to many stores, galleries, coffee shops, hotels, and restaurants. Whether you’re looking for cute and casual or upscale and elegant, you can find it in Tahoe City.

Activities

Tahoe City is located on the north western shore of Lake Tahoe, which means it’s a quick drive to a variety of popular outdoor activities. During the winter enjoy downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and snowmobiling. During the summer enjoy hiking, swimming, skiing, fishing, camping, biking, and boating on the lake. The town also offers popular events such as a farmers market, outdoor concerts, and movies at the beach.

Attractions

Tahoe City is close a number of popular attractions. Both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Ski resorts are a short drive away. Burton Creek State Park is a popular destination for hiking during the summer and cross-country skiing during the winter. There are a number of paved pathways around the lakeshore, great for jobbing, hiking, walking, biking, etc. The scenic Historic Thunderbird Lodge, located in nearby Incline Village, is also close by. And of course you’re just minutes for the shores of Lake Tahoe.

Getting Here

From South Lake you’ll head out of town on US-50\South Lake Tahoe Boulevard. Continue on this road for approximately 15 miles, where you’ll turn left at NV-28. Follow this road for approximately 28 miles until you arrive in Tahoe City. Along the route make sure to check out Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Glenbrook Bay, and of course, breathtaking views of the lake. Also, taking CA-89 around the western shore is another option, but this road is not as well maintained, and maybe closed seasonally.
